Areas with Fluoride Added to Drinking and Tap Water

UK Fluoride Overview

Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland are not fluoridated (yet) but approximately five million people in England live in areas that have drinking water with fluoride.

This happens in two ways:

Some areas have fluoride added to the water.

Some areas of the UK have naturally fluoridated water


Areas of the UK with Naturally-Fluoridated Water

In England, the following Postal Districts have naturally-fluoridated water at more than 0.5 ppm:

Durham: DH1, 2, part of 6
Essex: CO1-6, 8-10
Lincolnshire: Part of LN13
Peterborough: PE2, 4
Suffolk: IP1-8, 13, 14, 28 to 30, 33
Teesside: TS27, 28
Tyneside: NE25, 26, 29; part of NE30

List of Postcodes

To check if your water supply is fluoridated, you can ask your water supplier, usually by simply quoting your postcode. Many water suppliers also have an online tool.

The following known postcodes have fluoride added to the water by the water supplier.

Double check with your local supplier as the list might be subject to change.
