About the Filters
There are two main types of American Fridge Filters.
The ones that are attached externally (probably at the back of your fridge) and those fitted internally.

Your current fridge filter is made from carbon.
This is the most common type of material used for water filtration.
The carbon in your fridge filter is simply burnt coconut shell that has been pressed into a plastic tube - your filter cartridge.
So apart from some minor variations in the shape of the cartridges all these fridge water filters are basically the same.
