Instructions for Three Way Tap - Countertop Chrome

3-Way Kitchen Tap (Filtered Water):

Installation, Use and Care. For use in the United Kingdom only.

Dear Customer

Congratulations on your purchase of a 3-way kitchen tap.

Your new tap gives you normal hot and cold mixed water and, through a separate waterway, filtered drinking water from your under-sink water filter. Filtered water and ordinary tap water never mix inside the tap, so your filtered water stays clean.

We recommend using a professional plumber to install the tap. Please read these instructions before installation and keep them for future reference.

Please Note

1) The tap should be installed by a suitably qualified person, such as a WaterSafe or WIAPS approved plumber. Installation must comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 (in Scotland, the Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) Byelaws 2014). Any damage caused by unprofessional installation or maintenance is not covered by the warranty.

2) All supply pipes must be thoroughly flushed through before the tap is connected. Debris left in the pipes can damage the tap's cartridge or reduce the flow of water.

3) The filtered-water inlet must only ever be connected to the outlet of a drinking water filter fed from the cold mains. Never connect it to the hot supply, and do not feed it with water from a water softener.

4) Install the tap so it can easily be reached later for maintenance, repair or removal. We recommend fitting an isolating (service) valve on each supply.

5) The tap is designed for indoor use only. Do not let the tap, or the water inside it, freeze. If you're leaving the property empty for a long time, turn off the water at the main stop tap.

6) Do not leave the tap unattended while the system is being pressure-tested.

7) Your tap is designed for UK mains pressure between 0.5 and 10 bar (see Specifications). If your home has a low-pressure gravity-fed hot water system, the hot flow may be lower than you're used to.

Using Your Tap

Twin-lever 3-way tap: the large lever gives hot and cold mixed water and the small lever with the glass symbol gives filtered water

Your tap has two levers:

  • Large lever: ordinary hot and cold mixed water. Lift to turn on, then turn the lever to adjust between hot and cold.
  • Small lever (glass symbol): filtered drinking water from your water filter.

Filtered water comes out through its own separate waterway in the spout and never mixes with ordinary tap water.

When you first use filtered water after installation, or after a filter cartridge change, run the filtered water for the time stated in your filter's instructions before drinking it.

Care and Cleaning

Clean the following regularly: the aerator (the small mesh insert at the spout outlet), any isolating valves with built-in strainers, and the surface of the tap. Check the hose connections from time to time for any sign of leaks.

  • Use a soft, damp cloth.
  • Use a mild, biodegradable cleaner, ideally one based on natural fruit acids.
  • Do not use bleach or other chlorine-based cleaners, alcohol-based cleaners, strong acids, alkalis or solvents.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or cleaners containing scrubbing beads.
  • Clean the tap when it's at room temperature, not straight after running hot water.
  • After cleaning, rinse off all traces of cleaner and wipe the tap dry.
  • Do not use high-pressure or steam cleaners.

In hard water areas, cleaning the aerator regularly will keep the flow strong and even.

The finish on taps from the same range may vary very slightly in shade. This is a normal result of the manufacturing process and is not a defect. We reserve the right to make changes to the product design and specification without notice.

Notes for the Plumber

Please read the customer information above.

Essential points:

  1. Flush all supply pipework thoroughly before connecting the tap.
  2. Connect the filtered-water hose only to the outlet of the drinking water filter. The filter must be fed from the cold mains: not hot, and not softened water.
  3. Fit an isolating valve on the hot, cold and filter supplies, so the tap and filter can be serviced without draining down.
  4. Use only the original components supplied with the tap. Do not fit the tap on extensions, adaptors or reducers.
  5. All work must comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 (Scottish Byelaws 2014 in Scotland), including backflow protection appropriate to the installation.

Supply Requirements

  • Water pressure: minimum 0.5 bar, recommended 1 to 5 bar, maximum 10 bar
  • Hot water temperature: minimum 1°C, recommended 65°C, maximum 90°C

If the incoming mains pressure may go above 5 bar, a pressure reducing valve (PRV) is recommended to protect the tap and the filter.

Installation

Installation steps 1 to 3: stand the tap in position, fit the washer, backing plate and fixing nut from below, then tighten with the key

1) Feed the flexible hoses through the hole in the sink or worktop and stand the tap in position (Step 1 in the diagram).

2) From below, slide the washer and backing plate up over the hoses and fixing stud, then hand-tighten the fixing nut (Step 2).

3) Line the tap up and tighten the fixing nut fully with the supplied key or a box spanner (Step 3).

4) Connect the hoses: hot to the hot supply, cold to the cold supply, and the filtered-water hose to the outlet of the water filter. Follow the filter's own instructions for connecting it to the cold mains.

Flexible Hoses: Important

Connecting the flexible hoses: hand-tighten into the tap body and use a spanner only on the valve-end nut. Correct: gentle curves. Incorrect: twisted, crossed or sharply bent hoses

  • Screw the flexible hoses into the tap body by hand only. Do not use pliers, spanners or any sharp tool on the hoses or their tails.
  • Use a spanner only on the hexagon nut at the valve end, holding the hose so it doesn't twist.
  • Hoses must not be kinked, twisted or bent too tightly. Use gentle curves, as shown in the diagram above.

Commissioning

1) Before turning the supplies on, remove the aerator from the spout.

2) Turn on the supplies slowly and check every joint for leaks.

3) Run hot and cold water through the tap for a minute to clear any air and debris. Then refit the aerator.

4) Flush the water filter through the filtered-water outlet as described in the filter's instructions. Check that only filtered water comes out of the filtered-water outlet.

5) Show the customer how to use the small filtered-water lever.

6) Do not leave the installation unattended during pressure testing.

Specifications

  • Water pressure: minimum 0.5 bar, recommended 1 to 5 bar, maximum 10 bar
  • Hot water temperature: maximum 90°C, recommended 65°C
  • Filtered-water supply: cold mains via a drinking water filter only
  • Installation: indoor only, protect from frost
