Troubleshooting Reverse Osmosis | Process of Elimination Checklist
Solving Reverse Osmosis Water Filter Issues
PROCESS OF ELIMINATION
Step by Step, how to locate the fault
Starting at the water inlet to the water filter: CHECK EACH INLET / OUTLET to find out exactly where the water stops flowing in the system.
ie remove the tubing at each exit point and confirm water is coming out. (Here's a video on how to remove tubing from push fit connections.)
You will need to leave the water supply to the filter ON. But be ready to turn it off.
Check 1) Check Water supply - remove the tubing that goes from the water connection into the bottom 2 housings. Is water flowing? If yes move to Check 2.
If not:
Check are all the connections open?
a) the connection to the water supply. Ie that sits on the copper pipe. Turn the T bar tap all the way in and out two or three times. This is to clear any possible blockage inside the pipe (scale can build up and block the flow into the pinhole)
b) Check the "blue tap" shut off valve (if you have one fitted)
If water is flowing move to the next check / step.
Check 2) Bottom housings: Remove the tubing that exits these bottom 2 housings (ie on the right)
Is water flowing? If yes, move to the next inlet / outlet. IF NOT:
Open the housings and check the filters are sitting inside the bottom housings correctly
i) in a perfectly upright position
ii) and any rubber washers haven't become loose blocking the exits.
Correct and try again.
If the water still doesn't come out you have old blocked up pre-filters. Solution: get new filters.
The Product code for each filter is on its lablel. Enter the code into the website search tool.
Check 3) If lower housings work, follow the water flow and check each inlet / outlet in the same process of elimination.
ie remove the tubing that goes into / out of each unit until you identify where the flow stops.
Check 4) If water stops at the point where it comes out of the largest housing on the top of the system (the membrane) it means you need to change the membrane.
Once you have found where the water stops flowing please email us a photo POINTING CLEARLY TO EXACTLY WHERE the water doesn’t flow from.
ie show us the exact outlet where water does not come through.
Thank you
Repeated apologies for the issue.
Please note; none of these simple checks / actions require any expertise.
If you cannot do them yourself, you could ask a local handyperson.
