Troubleshooting Water Filters | Cloudiness or Black Grey water
Solving Water Filter Issues
Cloudiness or Black grey water
It is normal to get cloudiness and/or black grey water with a new filter for a while
Any black or grey in the water is simply “carbon fines” being flushed out of the new cartridges.
This will soon disappear.
And/or the cloudiness is tiny air bubbles that are coming out of the carbon.
(In fact these tinme air bubbles are a sign of very high quality filters because it shows the carbon has a lot of internal surface area inside each particle.)
The more internal surface area inside each filtration particle the more filtration will take place
The cloudiness is the air slowly escaping from each grain.
IS IT DANGEROUS?
No.
Please rest assured. Neither issue is dangerous. The water is food grade and still drinkable. It just doesn't look very nice. But it wont last long
SOLUTION
Run water through the filter until the issue disappears. It should be a few minutes. Maybe 10 mins max
For a Reverse Osmosis filter
You need to drain the tank a couple of times.
Close off the water supply to the system using the Saddle Valve device or the Quick Connect In-Line shut off. Leave the Faucet / Tap open until the storage tank drains. Then open up the water supply again to refill the tank and repeat the process.
Please note; none of these simple checks / actions require any expertise.
If you cannot do them yourself, you could ask a local handyperson.
