Water filter | Three Way Water Filter Mixer Taps

Most undersink kitchen water filters for drinking and cooking water require a small countertop tap to deliver the filtered water.

(These are included in our standard undersink water filter kits.)

To fit these you drill a hole through your countertop. This is easily done - asimple DIY or quick handyman job.

Don't want a small tap?

You might not want a small tap eg for stylish reasons or to avoid the challenge of a hard to drill kitchen countertop (marble / granite etc.

Can I use my own / original tap?

With standard undersinklk water filters you cannot run the filtered water through the cold water side of your existing tap because the filtered water's flow rate will be too low.

The water will trickle out of the tap too slowly.

But there are options:

Options to avoid fitting a small filter tap

Option 1) Use your own existing / orginal tap

The Keep Your Own Tap water filter works well for a basic carbon "taste and odour" improving filter.

It means you don't have to change your existing kitchne tap

The KYOT filter removes 99% of chrloine (the main contaminant in most tap water.)

This can replace the SYS1000 and other undersink filters that require a small tap.

The water comes out of your existing tap at a normal high flow rate (there is some reduction in flow but this is marginal - say a 4% loss max.) 

However the KYOT doesn't work for all filter requirements. For example the  undersink Reverse Osmosis or undersink anti scale solutions where the flow needs to be slower than is possible with a standard tap.


Option 2) Three Way Taps

These are special taps that deliver hot and cold water through standard size faucets  / tap holes

The filtered water comes out of a seperate, smaller spout - hence the term "three way"

You would swap this out with your existing sink tap - but it fits into the same tap hole - you don't need to drill through the countertop etc

These three way taps can work well with any water filter but especially for undersink Reverse Osmosis or undersink anti scale filters (as above, where the flow needs to be slower than is possible with a standard tap.)
