Solving Reverse Osmosis Water Filter Issues
Bacteria Found?
Check: Are you Overdue Replacing Filters?
Are you overdue replacing filters?
The membrane filter needs renewing every 2-3 years (sometimes sooner if they’re in a hard water area or if their RO water usage is high)
The other filters on the unit need replacing every 6 months.
Check: Are you on a mains water supply?
If not you should also install Ultra Violet filters
Check: Have you sanitised your RO system?
You should periodically disinfect your RO unit.
This is to make sure no bacteria builds up in the tank and piping/tubes
(The RO filter removes bacteria. But bacteria could slowly grow up in the tank and tubes after that stage.)
Here's how to sanitise your Reverse Osmosis
When to Sanitise your RO filter
Guidelines vary between every time you change the cartridges to once every year or two - to almost never!
But the hotter the country the more often you should do it.
The easiest time to do this is when you change your six month cartridges.
I’ve checked all of the above BUT I’ve tested the RO filtered water again and still found bacteria:
Please email us confirming each of the following:
1) I confirm: I am on a standard public / mains water supply.
2) I confirm: I am not not overdue replacing any filters
3) I confirm: I’ve sanitised the system
4) How did you test? Please confirm
a) was it a proper lab test. Or was it from a “dip slide test” or ?
5) Where did the test water come from?
a) the tap/faucet?
b) Or direct from the machine? If so, where exactly? Take a picture pointing to the exact point you took the test water from.
Please note; none of these simple checks / actions require any expertise.
If you cannot do them yourself, you could ask a local handyperson.
