Troubleshooting Reverse Osmosis | Tank Issues

Solving Reverse Osmosis Water Filter Issues

Tank Issues

To find out more about the problem we need you or your installer to carry out the following simple checks to isolate the problem.

First check the unit has been installed correctly see how here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naPWgTt5b68

If you’re happy everything looks OK then…please see these simple checks below:

CHECK A) MAKE SURE TANK IS INFLATED BETWEEN 5 - 7 PSI

Check this quick video https://youtu.be/R2Qc-09NFLk

Check the pressure eg using a bicycle pump with a simple pressure gauge on it.

Use the tyre pump valve on the front of the tank to pump/add pressure.

(The tyre pump valve is often covered with a plastic cap which you can unscrew off)

Or to release pressure depress the central pin in the valve.

If the pressure in your tank is too low it won’t push the water out into your tap. If it’s too high (ie it's over 7 psi) the 4 way valve shuts water flow to the tank.

Now let the tank fill again - takes 20 minutes or more - then see if water comes out of the countertop water filter tap

Still not working?

CHECK B) LOW INCOMING WATER PRESSURE?

Check your incoming water pressure. If this is too low water won't be able to push into and out of the tank.

Min water pressure is 2.7 BAR (40 psi) Max water pressure is 5.8 BAR (85 psi)

You can try removing the membrane filter from its casing (this is the largest white casing horizontal on top of the unit)

First turn off the water supply to the unit using the saddle valve or inline shut off valve on the blue tubing into the system.

Remove the membrane filter using pliers, string or a cable tie if necessary.

Then screw the membrane cap back onto the empty casing and turn on the water supply to the unit.

If your tank then begins the fill without the membrane filter inside this means your incoming water pressure is too low.

If this is a new RO system then this is the most probable cause.

Solution: you need a RO with a pump.

Unfortunately, as we make clear on the product sales webpage, you cannot retrofit a pump onto the standard RO unit you have. It is just too complicated and risky re fire hazard etc.

You would need to buy a new system ie a Reverse Osmosis with a pump for low pressure properties

The simplest way to check for low pressure is to turn your cold water tap in the kitchen on full. Stand a few feet away. If you are being splashed with at least a few droplets then your pressure should be high enough.

Note: If you have an installer on site you could go ahead with part installation ie Steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 and when it arrives simply insert the pumped unit in place of the main unit (shown in Image 1)

CHECK C) IS YOUR TANK EXHAUSTED?

How old is your tank? The bladder inside your tank might be ruptured. If so, you need a new RO tank. Product Code RO-TANK-12L

NOTE RE LARGER TANKS

If you have a much larger tank (bigger than the standard 9L or 12L or 18L sizes)

Pressure can often be too high.

If you use a MAINS PUMP your large tank pressure should be set to 0.3 bar less than the incoming pressure of your mains pump.

Please note; none of these simple checks / actions require any expertise.

If you cannot do them yourself, you could ask a local handyperson.
