Troubleshooting Reverse Osmosis | Bad Taste / Smells
Solving Reverse Osmosis Water Filter Issues
Bad Taste / Smells
First check the unit has been installed correctly:
For standard RO-UKWF check this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naPWgTt5b68
For pumped RO’s check the flow diagram in the original instructions.
If you’re happy everything looks OK then…please see these simple checks below)
POSSIBLE CAUSE A
Check your drain clamp connection.
This should be sited above the U-bend. (The U-bend catches the gases from your drains so they don’t smell out your kitchen.)
If your drain clamp connection is sited after / beyond the U-bend then gas and smells can rise from the drain into the filter.
Solution: relocate drain clamp connection to above U-bend.
POSSIBLE CAUSE B
Old filters need replacing. Are the filters past their use by date?
(The relevant product code for each filter will be on the housing. Use our Search tool with the product code (these will be on the relevant filter system housing.)
POSSIBLE CAUSE C
Bacteria build up in your tank
EITHER
1) Sterilse / sanitise your tank. Here’s how: https://www.uk-water-filters.co.uk/pages/how-to-sanitise-your-reverse-osmosis
2) And change ALL the filters (The relevant product code for each filter will be on the housing. Search with the code to get these on our website https://www.uk-water-filters.co.uk )
OR
Buy a new tank
Please note; none of these simple checks / actions require any expertise.
